Why Buy?

It’s a phenomenon that I know I have discussed with dozens of parents. Here’s the breakdown….

We spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on toys for our children. Of course, they play with them for a little while and then it’s on to something new. Like for instance, the laundry basket.

Yesterday, our house literally looked like the clothing hamper threw up all over the house. Cate thought this was awesome. First, she wanted to know if she could jump in the pile of DIRTY clothing like it was a leaf pile.

Then, it was really quiet for about 30 minutes. She constructed a whole new “bed” in our laundry basket complete with dirty sheets and a pillow from the couch (see attached picture for full effect). We laughed, a lot, but then I started thinking. She has a playroom upstairs and all she wants to do is lie in the dirty clothes basket for a mid-morning siesta.

So, as Christmas approaches, I am struggling. Instead of buying her toys out of the Toy-R-Us catalog, maybe I should just consider a large box and a ball of string. I’m sure she could come up with something.

Oh fun with dirty laundry, yeah!
My girls ususally manage to dirty up the clean laundry only because it sits unfolded in the living room chair entirely too long!

That pic of little Cate is too cute, she looks so much older all of the sudden!
